Sergey Nikitin's new solo exhibition "2022" invites the viewer to immerse himself in the timeless world of abstract characters that are the central figures of his work.
At their core, the characters are a reflection of the world around, multiplied by our fears, worries, doubts. The project is named “2022” as all works were created based on the events of year 2022.
“My characters, being the present, are inextricably linked with the past,” says the artist. - They live in a single artistic reality with the heroes of the works of Picasso, Basquiat, Dubuffet. There they lose their original connection with the present and cease to be carriers of those emotions and meanings that we give them. Our response to the characters connects us to the experience of all of humanity, but most of all to ourselves."
In his work, Sergey uses new media and moves the character from the traditional canvas to a new context: in 3D (bas-reliefs made using a 3D printer) and in the digital world (video art).
